A shop is a promise you renew every morning. You open the shutter, and everyone who walks in decides again whether you were worth the trip.
That is the part of this business I have never wanted to outsource. We are on Station Road because the people we serve are on Station Road. When a customer is unhappy, they do not write a review — they tell me at the counter, and I would rather have it that way.
So the rules we run on are short. Check the fabric before it reaches the shelf. Put a fair number on the tag and leave it there. Tell a customer honestly when something does not suit them, even when it costs us the sale that day. It usually earns the next five.
We have grown from a single shelf to six categories under one roof, and I expect we will grow further. What I do not want to lose along the way is the thing that got us here — that when someone from this town buys cloth from us, they feel looked after rather than sold to.
If we ever fall short of that, come and tell me. The counter is right there.
